About:

This blog is predominately about camera trapping in California. We camera trap to save our souls and to teach primary school students about biology and conservation. We will also touch on other camera trapping news and musings, sets from afar, mediocre herpetology, sucky birding, and other natural history discussions.

More of the Redwoods: Predators

Its been a busy month.

I am hoping February may give me a little more time for misadventures, but more likely it will be March.

So here are a few images for the Santa Cruz Mountains that I should have gotten up a few months ago. These are from the same set that got the raccoon family hijinks.

And I am going to go ahead and consider the loud-mouthed Steller's Jay a predator.

One more shot of a Steller's Jay, mostly to show off this beautiful redwood creek setting

    1. Thanks Alyssa.

It does seem like we have a much easier time catching bobcats out west than you folks on the other side of the Rocky Mountains. Good luck getting one!

    1. Yeah it is pretty nice, but right now the whole foreground is back under water. We have found the redwoods to be pretty quite in general, but this spot got a lot of mammals passing through.

    1. Seriously right!?!

Maybe I need to start doing two camera pointed at each other and see if the little bastards can figure out a way to defy the laws of physics.

  5. Once I got chickens, I started to have renewed empathy for bugs. And lizards. And frogs. Any anything else a chicken can & will kill. Birds are MEGA predators, and frequently half or more of their face is a giant blade (bill), so I think including the jay is perfectly suitable. =) We've been seeing bobcats around here, too. I tend to see them more in winter (Jan/Feb)--you?
