Thanks for the links RT. I think this will have to be a future post, maybe even turn it into a quiz and see if people can guess the correct individual.JKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16614141904786915153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2024196009162417404.post-4005979958485853732012-03-12T22:10:25.460-07:002012-03-12T22:10:25.460-07:00Yes, I've definitely gotten a fair number of b...Yes, I've definitely gotten a fair number of bobcat butt. Pulling up a few, it looks like that tail marking might be distinct enough to ID individuals. Here's several shots for comparison: bobcat1, bobcat2, and bobcat3.randomtruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01941027847362672057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2024196009162417404.post-22935055238891944322012-03-11T18:16:04.870-07:002012-03-11T18:16:04.870-07:00I know Codge and random truth have quite a few bob...I know Codge and random truth have quite a few bobcats too. I think we have two cats here now the more I look at them. The black and white tail pattern is too tough but the black stripes on the tail are much easier to see. Legs are always good but all of these YLR bobcats seem to be almost patternless as far as spots and strong leg banding goes.JKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16614141904786915153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2024196009162417404.post-55563463020635470292012-03-11T07:05:53.884-07:002012-03-11T07:05:53.884-07:00HA! Yep....I flew down there quick and put a few ...HA! Yep....I flew down there quick and put a few bobcats in head-locks to keep them from going into your camera sets :)

Yeah, the pattern on the legs would be a good character to look at. I don't know if anyone has ever used tail pattern before (but you and JK might have the largest bobcat fanny-shot data set in the US, so maybe no one has investigated it yet ;) ).

The tail pattern on the one above really seems distinct.....Trailblazerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09949103831752176052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2024196009162417404.post-81359611076441412702012-03-09T19:19:44.863-08:002012-03-09T19:19:44.863-08:00I think the hind legs here could be even more help...I think the hind legs here could be even more helpful in marking individuals.

From what I have read (which probably isn't much), tails have not been mentioned specifically as being a strong marker, but their coat patterns as a whole will be very distinct.

Also, are you holding someone back from this set? ;)christianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17949844088996490968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2024196009162417404.post-39752752504649071152012-03-09T18:45:08.148-08:002012-03-09T18:45:08.148-08:00You're right! I'm, once again, a shade of emerald after viewing your bobcat pictures!

Back-sides or front-sides, those are some cool pics.

I would agree those have to be some pretty specific tail markings for ID of individuals.

Looking forward to more!Trailblazerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09949103831752176052noreply@blogger.com
